We designed this bright and contemporary space for a young family who, having moved out of London into the countryside, wanted to put their own stamp onto their new home, which was a little tired and unloved. Although they had some strong ideas of what they wanted to achieve, they were struggling to know how to translate this into the property, and so we worked together to achieve this.
To update the traditional feel to the home, we used a palette of greys with splashes of bright colour, and combinations of different materials such as wood, copper and softer textiles. Space planning was key in the main living space – the house would have originally had two reception rooms, which had been knocked through and joined together, leaving rather a long and narrow space. In order to counter act this, we created two defined spaces that worked together in an open plan living style. Using a cleverly designed window seat with storage, we maximised the seating area without compromising on the spacious feel of the room.
